October Challenge, Week Four; Final Result… Failure?!

My statements about derailed exercise routines from my earlier diet article seem almost prophetic now. It took a bit longer than the customary one week, but something finally managed to knock me off my new exercise routine. This time it was the triple-headed beast of work, sickness and tsunami. Between catching a wicked cold, the constant rainfall through the end of Friday all through Saturday and late nights at work, I found myself facing this Monday having only managed to do one of the five running sessions I had planned for the last week.

It’s certainly not the most auspicious way to end the October Challenge and I definitely fell short of my goal, so no kudos for me I guess. On the other hand, I can see keeping this running up for a bit longer. Maybe not five times a week, but a couple times might be kind of pleasant.

Speaking of kudos, I’ve been thinking of giving myself a little extra incentive to complete these monthly challenges. I’m thinking of maybe putting aside 10,000 yen or so ($87.53 US according to Google) every time I clear one of my goals and using it for something fun next year. Bragging rights are nice, but it’s also fun to be able to say that I paid for something with a year of chutzpah.

For the record:

Date Start time End time Running time
10/22/07 10:34 PM 11:05 PM 31 minutes

So, not the best way to start off my year of challenges, but no time to dwell on that now. I’ve got to gear up and get ready to start up something fresh and new for November. November Challenge, here I come!
